The assignment:
A major municipal energy provider aimed to enter the Austrian residential and commercial market with electricity and gas as part of a growth strategy. Our mission was to establish a solid decision-making foundation, from assessing market opportunities and economic viability to designing the operational and implementation model for a scalable market entry.
The approach:
We combined market and competitive analysis with a business case review to develop key assumptions for the market entry scenario. At the same time, we explored various organisational structures for execution and converted the target decision into an operating model, where market-focused services remain in-house, and the execution of market and customer processes is handled by a strategic partner. Building on this, we fully prepared the tender and managed the selection process (including service components, supplier research, structured offer clarification and evaluation) and subsequently supported implementation up to market readiness – this included integrating the service provider, market registration/communication, and setting up the relevant sales channels and stakeholder agreements.
The result
The client received a solid foundation for making informed decisions about entering the market, including an economic assessment, as well as a project partner objectively selected through a tender process. Through hands-on support, the key requirements for market operations were established, and preparations for market entry were in place up to the soft launch and onwards to operational status.
