The assignment:
Skilled workers are scarce in many industries. Both the industrial and craft sectors face the challenge of ensuring ergonomic working conditions. Our client, prompted by the spread of exoskeletons, wanted to find out whether these could benefit their processes. Therefore, we were commissioned by management to conduct a practical test. The aim was to assess specific physical relief and efficiency gains, as well as any potential drawbacks.
The approach:
Beginning with a thorough market research, promising exoskeleton models that suited the physically demanding tasks of the client were identified. Building on this, and incorporating input from experienced staff, a practical testing approach was devised to address the client’s specific questions. Subsequently, selected test cases were conducted with intensive on-site support from Blue Advisory, and were documented and analysed. In addition to observations and photographic documentation, structured and standardised interviews were conducted with the test participants.
The result
The practical test provided a comprehensive evaluation focused on the specific customer processes, assessing the pros and cons of a potential exoskeleton introduction. Notably, the advantages included practical integration and testing conducted by external experts. This enabled management to quickly make an informed, fact-based decision on this entirely new topic for the company, with minimal use of their own resources.
