Transforming financial management in the church sector

The assignment:

A church organisation faces the challenge of evolving the financing and budgeting framework of its individual legal entities in a way that will stand the test of time. Falling financial headroom, increasing complexity and higher demands for transparency and governance make a fundamental structural change necessary. The aim of the current project is to develop a modern, budget-based funding model and embed it within the organisation's structures and processes.

The approach:

Together with specialist teams and decision-makers, we analyse existing financing, budget and administrative processes and use that as the basis for developing future budget and financial management. In doing so, we support the project both intensively in project management and overall coordination, and as needed with subject-matter questions — including cost allocation models, budget planning, governance, role models and organisational impacts. We also support the structuring of the overall project, communications and the step-by-step preparation for implementation.

The result

The project is currently being implemented. Key foundations for more transparent, fairer and financially sustainable financial management have already been put in place, including project structures, governance mechanisms, as well as initial target visions and an implementation roadmap. The further development and introduction of the new system will happen in stages and will be closely supported throughout.
